Indonesian Police Raid Punk Concert, Shave off Mohawks and Place Fans in Camp
Tuesday, December 27th, 2011Police in the most conservative province of Indonesia, Aceh, are detaining 65 punk-rock fans in “re-education camps” after raiding a concert this past weekend. They rounded them up, buzzed off their hair, took away their body piercings and “disgusting clothes,” and sent them to a lake for cleansing because of the supposed threat to Islamic values. According to the deputy mayor, this punishment is to be applauded, and will continue, until the “social disease” of punk rock has been eradicated.
